Background
Fordland Clinic Inc. was formed in 1996 to improve access to health care and to improve the quality of care and prevention services available to area residents. We envision being the provider of choice for all area residents while being able to offer care to residents irregardless of income. We consider it a part of our mission to address at least one health promotion or preventative service with every encounter. We have been offering medical services, urgent care and mental health services since 1996. In June of 2006, after 5 years of development, our children's dental program Cavity Busters became a reality. In 2005 we provided 7172 medical visits and 261 mental health visits of which 37% were Medicaid and 20% were uninsured. In addition, we provided over $65,045 in medications to our low-income, uninsured patients through the pharmaceutical patient assistance programs. At no cost to the patients we provided comprehensive hearing evaluations and balance testing / fall prevention to 56 patients, over 200 nutritional counseling sessions, and uncounted blood pressure checks and other minor services.
Position Specific Challenges
For the fist 9 years our expansion and discounted fee schedule was funded entirely from profits from our insurance paying patients (30%) and from the enhanced reimbursement as a Federally Certified Rural Health Clinic for Medicare & Medicaid patients. Over the last two years and with the challenges posed by offering dental services grant funds totaling $159,000 now make up 20% of our income.
Due to incorporating dental services, with pending dental outreach services and Federally Qualified Health Center (Look alike) status, over the next three years our one clinic site, 0.7 million budget providing 10,000 patient encounters per year will expand to two locations, a 2.0 million dollar budget and over 20,000 encounters per year. Donations from individuals has made up less than 1% (confirm) of our budget, this will expand to over 5% within this time period as more effective methods of publicizing the mission of our organization and a system for soliciting individual donations is implemented. Capital grants will needed as we anticipate outgrowing the capacity of our yet to be opened second fixed delivery site within two years. We will be challenged to fund, design and construct new facilities for increasing activity.
A changing organization will call for character, flexibility, adaptation, good communications, mutual respect and good humor. We value energy, creativity and resolve, especially reflected in taking responsibility to stick with a task and meet deadlines.
